Dreamland is considered to be the oldest-surviving amusement park in Britain, the site originally used as 'Hall by the Sea' since 1860 until being renamed after purchase by John Henry Iles in 1920. In 2003, after decades of decline and a series of owners, the park was under threat of closure and commercial redevelopment. After a successful 'Save Dreamland Campaign' from which the Dreamland Trust raised £18m of public funding to restore Dreamland's Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Grade II listed cinema complex and Grade II-listed menagerie cages the Dreamland restoration project began in January 2010.
